"Wishful Thinking"

I lie awake, thinking, wondering
Wishing for the coming of a new time
Waiting for that which eludes me
Hoping to catch it
Failing miserably
The trials of my life
The pain, the sorrow, the agony
The joy, the happiness, the torment of each
They make me human
They let me know I'm alive
Feel the emotions
Raw, untouched, throbbing with each heartbeat
Hear the echoes of my thoughts
And know that I
I will be here
Waiting, wondering, wishing
For that which shall never come.
