Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"Things Unsaid"

A passing whisper
A silent breath
A pause of anticipation
Things left unsaid
The world a painful place
A place of self-torture and hurt
A place where those without conscience
Maim, hurt, and kill
Emotions
Baggage we all carry
A burden forever
A cross borne for eternity

The words not said
Part not from our lips
For those nearby us
Cannot understand
Cannot help
Incapable of coping
When I hug you
When I am playful
When I scream in pain
In agony
Your reaction is distance
A wall between us
A barrier blocking me
Protecting you
Fear, timidity
They strengthen it
Building on themselves

My words shall forever go unsaid
My thoughts my own
For I have tried
I assumed to much
Human to me meant
That you were capable of understanding
That you cared
That your friendship meant more
Than a dreary goodbye,
Get out of my life,
And never return
I thought I meant more
But apparently I do not
For my words
My thoughts
They must go unsaid
Hear the words I'm not saying
Feel the pain I share not
For I am my pain
My anger
My hurt and frustration
Those things I cannot share
For you do not wish to know
Or hear
Or understand
My emotions, my feelings
You do not wish to tread
In the wilderness of my heart

Hear the words I'm not saying
And the pleas for help
Hear them now
For someday they will be gone
Someday, those words
Those thoughts
Left unsaid
Someday
They will be gone
