"Understanding"

Look inside me
Look deep inside
Reach into my heart
The deep dark places
Search throughout me
Wherever you can
Many places you are barred
A wall of emotion
Stopping you from getting in
With the strength and determination
Of a pack of wild horses

I am not as easy to read
As I like to pretend
I hide through open deception
Being so open
That you miss the few things unsaid
My reactions and actions
Planned well ahead of time
Prepared, protecting
You cannot get inside

I fear your entrance
Into my heart
Into my life
I have been hurt
So many times
My heart a mass
Of deeply scarred tissue
Blackened beyond belief
Yet continuing to bleed
All throughout my life

Understanding me is hard
Hearing that which is unsaid difficult
Yet that is what I need
I need one who will know without asking
One who can instantly understand
My hurts, pains, desires, wishes
I am really quite simple
Once you get past my mask
But beware crossing that line
For once you get in
You will carry the burden of my love for you

For those who like to read
Between the lines
This poem is simple
Not a deception
Nothing unsaid
I am a simple creature
With a strong mind
And a hurting heart
In my eyes can you see
All there is to know about me
Understanding is simple
All it requires is love
