Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"The Rose"

A soft petal
Like velvet
Brushes against my face
The soft, beautiful scent
Permeating my senses
I open my eyes and look
At the beauty
The wonder
Of this fine creation
And think fondly of she
For whom I carry it

For the rose
In its perfection
Is only a mocking
Of the beauty she wears
Her eyes like precious raindrops
Resting in the petals
Her lips
Crimson like the rose
Her smile a ray of sunlight
Brightening all it touches

It is she
For whom I bear
This gift of near perfection
It is not enough
But it is all I can find
For I am unworthy
And dare not ask
To bathe in her beauty
Her splendour
Her kindness
But I love her with all my heart
And I dream of a day
In which I may be
More than I am
A better man
One worthy
Of she
