Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"Emotional Rain"

Soft, shining eyes
A smile that melts my heart
Tiny little personality quirks
That make my heart do sommersaults
A work of art
Perfect curves and contours
Scent beautiful as spring flowers

Inside, confusion
Wondering
Why such little things
Hold so much control over me
Twisting my emotion
Making me want
Making me desire
Wanting to please
Wanting to hold, caress
Care for

I wonder
I look at others around me
Grumpy personalities
Hurtful, hateful people
I shy away from them
Knitted brows
Frowning, pouting lips
An aura of hatred pouring out
Flooding the space around them
Yet others
Indifferent
Oblivious of their surroundings
I look at all these things
And realize slowly
How our perceptions modify our mood
How your emotions
Bleed over to me
And control and affect my reactions to you
Each thought, each emotion
Reflected in your body language
Drawing me closer
Or making me shy away

If only others
Could see more clearly
How their body language affects others
How their mood, their emotions
Their thoughts
Affected such miniscule things
In this weird, wild world we live in
I wonder
Would it ever be the same?
What would happen
If you could feel each miniscule amount of pain
You inflict on every person you touch
Of each tiny bit of joy
Your smile brings to them?

Rain falls
Some acid
Some pure
A rose drinks deeply
Each acidic drop
Tearing the perfect rose apart
Your words, actions, emotions
Good and bad
Like rain
Pour softly onto me
I am the rose
As are you
Torn slowly apart
By the acid of our hatred
If only we could change....
