Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"Plight of a Hurtful Man"

I shake my head
Dismayed, distraught
I think to myself
And wonder why, why
Why do I do such stupid things
Why do I betray her
Her trust, her love
Why do I do things to hurt her
She is so beautiful
So wonderful
So perfect
And she loves me
Yet I hurt her
Again and again

My heart is hers
It pines for her
Calls out to her
Yet my mind
My body
They turn against her love
Against her heart
They hurt her
Torture her
Tear her to pieces
Why?
For no reason at all
For the best reason of all
For spite, for anger
For lack of reason

I apologize
For the pain I cause
For that which disturbs
The health of nature
For these crimes
Shall I pay
My heart rent to pieces
My life a shambles
I feel the pain
Of thousands of tortured souls
The pains I have caused
The pains I deserve
The pains I have received
I love her
I cannot stop
I can only hurt though
And am best off
Alone
