Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"Net Addict"

Eyelids close slightly
Lips part, leaving a thin gap
A look of pure ecstasy
A moan of pleasure
The drug enters
The withdrawl staved off
The addiction sated
For now

Pick up the phone
A crisp, clear tone
One click of the mouse
And the modem fires off
Phone digits
Rapidly connecting
The program connects
Applications pop up like popcorn
Sockets are opened
Lean back
Feel the drug
Feel the net surge through your mind
Feel the power
Of fiber and coax
Feel the surge of data
A world to flow through

The phone disconnects
Eyes wide
Mouth shaped like an "O"
Reconnect, reconnect
It fails
Again and again
Shake, tremor
Feel the fear
Course through your entire body
Feel each tremor shake you
As you realize
You are cut off
Alone
Stranded
Without a net link

Addicted
Severely
Torn
Shaken
Withdrawal
Need
Desire
Darkness
