Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"Lonliness"

Depression sets in
I swallow hard, my mouth
Dry as the desert
My heart races,
Faster than a greyhound, than a horse.
I look around, and see only
Jeering faces
Laughing faces

I writhe in agony
My heart rent in two
Alone, totally alone
In a world of Jackals
I search for comfort, for love
I find only hatred and dislike
Lies, deceptions, teasing
All a part of my everyday life

All I ask for is friendship
My only request that of caring
I know not what I did
That offended you all so
But whatever it was
I apologize, with all my heart

My life is one of emptiness
Of emptiness I know not how to fill
An emptiness created out of
Lonliness
That which comes about by being
Excommunicated by the world
Cut off and left floating in
The Void
The emptiness of the world
Where no man, no child, no woman
No one
Wishes to survive, or go on.

Feel my pain, my lonliness
Know my craving, my desire
My need
All I ask is friendship
Companionship
A release from the lonliness
Into which the Jackals have cast me.
Without others, I am
left with
Nothing.
