Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"Isolation"

Have you never felt
The lonliness, the emptiness
Granted by your connection to the net?
Have you never felt the isolation
The utter isolation that it creates
In your otherwise normal life?
Whether you have or not
Whether you hear the cry
Of my broken heart
I feel it
To the core of my soul
As each person
One by one
Turns down my offers to meet
To see each other without
A tangle of phone cable between

My isolation is nearing completion
I try to break from it
Yet those I meet work only to increase it
I am showered with praise
With comfort, with love?
Yet in all this time
Not one person
Will dare
To meet me
Face to face

What crime did I commit?
What offense did I make
To deserve the punishment of
Ostricization?
At what point
Did I suddenly become unworthy
Of being a member of the human race?

To each of you I give my thanks
For making my life oh so wonderful
And ask only this:
That you search your souls
And decide why you chose
The path of causing pain
And I hope
With all my heart
That I am the only one
To suffer this fate
By your hands

Gandalf....
