Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"Flesh and Blood"

A soft breeze
Flows through my mind
Clearing the confused thoughts
Wiping away the tears
The depression
The pain
A breeze of understanding
Of clear thought

I open my eyes
And see the words on my screen
My net connection wildly active
People talking
Conversation threads cluttering
I read what is there
Instant transposition
My soul wanders back in
Locks into the room
But as I talk
As I listen
I realize that most everyone surrounding me
They do not care
Nor understand
The full implications of their words
Of their conversations
I am real
A flesh and blood human
Yet their words cut my soul
Just as a knife would cut my flesh
Do you understand
Or even care
That I am REAL
That my feelings TRULY exist?
I am not superficial
I exist, both real life, and net
Each person, each name
Each soul that I meet and touch
They are important to me
As important as my own life
Yet many
Many of you do not understand
And say and do things
And act
As if I am nothing
As if I could not possibly care
Or understand, or love
I am for REAL
And cruel words
Hurt worse than stones
Regardless of your perspective
Of your interest, your care
I take you seriously
So before you speak
Or act hastily
Take a moment to THINK
Think about what you are about to do
And remember
I am right there before you
My eyes locked with yours
I am flesh and blood
Just like you
And I have feelings too
