Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"Lonely Existence"

Existence.
That which can be observed or proven.
Not a state of being, but a choice,
A choice between continuing
Or terminating
A state of decision
Whyfor should I choose to exist?
I have nothing, I am nothing
The wretched soul who bears
The burdens, the pains, the sorrows
Of the world, entire and full.
There is no relief, no reduction,
Only constant increase.
I thought that I loved
I thought that I cared
I believed many things
But I find that I may only trust
Myself.
For all I turn to betray,
Or leave, or tell mistruths,
Even the ones that I love.
This is the end of an existence
In a world of confusion
Deception and lies.
Take care fair world,
For life is short, and pain is long,
And more often than not
The things you most love
Will be crushed out of
Existence.
