Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"Emarald"

Hair like sunshine
Eyes like the sea
Skin soft as a flower petal
Lips like a rose
A rare gem
Glistening
Shining brightly

Her name is Emarald
Oft silent and pensive
Beauty beyond compare
One such as her
Have I never met
One of a kind
An inspiration

She owns my heart
I a prisoner
In the jail of her beauty
The tables are turned
For once I cannot control
My heart, My emotions
She worries that I
With my strong will and way
Shall overpower her
And does not realize
That she, in fact
Holds the reins

I love her
Despite myself
Despite all reason
A love that cannot
Be returned or requited
I am torn apart
My charred, scarred heart
Silently breaking
The pain no one can
Know or share
Another wound
Another slash into my heart
One which will ne'er heal

It is not her fault
But mine
That the chips
This way have fallen
I will always
Always
Love and care for Emarald
Yet I know
With all that I am
That love will never
Be able to be returned
