Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel "Companionship"I sit here at my computer Gazing out across the web Of telephone lines Connecting many people with each other I gaze, searching for one One which has not tied into another One available to talk, converse I look, I search I delve deep into the twisted mass I pry at the tangle of line Yet I fail: They all connect to somewhere else There are no free lines No others searching No others interested I don't give up hope though I keep watching, waiting Bit by bit some of them cancel out But before I can grab hold of a loose end Another reaches in and grabs it away I struggle, I fight the mass Of twisting connections, strangling me But find nothing, no one Everyone is too busy And so I sit And shall sit Waiting Wishing Hoping for a chance to talk But I know deep down inside That I will not get that chance And lose hope of Companionship Back to the poetry list. |
