Poem written by Benjamin Wiechel

"Attraction"

Her voice echoes in my mind
A soft whisper of friendship
We talk, we listen
We share our dreams, our wishes
We see each other not
Nor hear
For we talk through the wires
The phone wires which connect
And separate

Her mind is keen
Her thoughts well spoken
Her fears rarely present
Yet even though we
Are not physically together
I feel her soft touch
Her caress
The sweetness of her voice
The twinkle in her eye

I see more than is there
I see past the mask
Past the computer
I see into her heart
I understand her

Would that she understood me
Could trust me as I trust her
Could feel the love
The caring
That I feel inside for her
But alas
That shall not be

I am alone in this world
Few are like me
Few are able to see
The pain, the joy
In others
Few can understand their motives
Their desires, their dream
Only a few try
I can see past the mask you wear
I can see into your heart
I understand you

But as I walk this planet
I find that of all those I know
Only I have the understanding
And so I bear the pain
Of myself and others
With only a small chair
To lean on

Remember me
Remember my love
My caring, my hopes
For one day, one day after I have gone
You, and she, will realize
Those thing which I wished for
Never appeared
